Jomapo (José Poleon-Henry)
“Music is not just a fun thing to do. It’s not just for a career. it’s a great gift that is given to us to reach people and to help us relate to each other and to life”. These are the words of the Jamaican musician José Poleon-Henry, a gifted and passionate singer, songwriter, arranger and choir master who has his roots in black gospel, and is literally the son of a preacher man. He has an impressive four-octave vocal range and his passion is very evident as he sings, and he does so with such a commanding presence when he performs live, which is more his first love than even recording in the studio. As he says, “I live for live music because it is there that I really have the hands-on symbiosis with my audience.” He sings across various genres, such as gospel, soul, blues, and pop and delivers a very passionate exchange and interaction with his audience as he connects with them.
